Beast Movie Review
I saw this film some time ago and my reaction to it was mixed.
It sets an exciting backdrop in which a widowed father, brilliantly played by Idris Elba, goes on an adventure in South Africa with his two daughters. The opening act is strong, it really draws you in. It highlights the unique bond between animals and humans, whether ethically we use them for our own enjoyment and interfere with their natural habits.
The action is fast, tense and dramatic enough to keep you on the edge of your seat, leading to a climactic ending battle that’s well worth the price of admission, with some very impressive CGI lions that look like they were coming to the big screen.
The story feels very generic, which causes the script to become very predictable and takes away from the authenticity, just another big Hollywood movie taking a dig at the thriller genre, with well-executed jump scares.
Overall an ambitious film, one that has the potential to become a successful franchise if it focuses on using its weaknesses and strengths as a base for better things to come.
