Aadipurush is a 2023 Indian mythological action film based on the Hindu epic Ramayana. The film is directed and co-written by Om Raut, and produced by T-Series and Retrofiles. Shot simultaneously in Hindi and Telugu, the film stars Prabhas, Saif Ali Khan, Kriti Sanon, Sunny Singh, and Devdutt Nage.
The story is based on Lord Shri Ram, who travels to Lanka along with his younger brother to build Ram Setu. Directed by Om Raut, Aadipurush stars Prabhas, Kriti Sanon, and Sai Ali Khan in lead roles. Adipurush begins with a strong introduction of Ravana, also known as Lankesh, which establishes the character’s power and authority.
The story then shifts to a few years later, when Raghav and Janaki have been exiled to the forest and are struggling to survive daily. Later, when Shurpanakha comes to Ravana, their problems increase further. She asks her brother to kidnap Sita as revenge for Rama’s rejection of her. Raghav then works with Bajrang and Sugriva to help him free his wife from the demon king’s grip.
Adipurush Review
When one attempts to portray an epic like the Ramayana on screen, exemplary portrayals are expected as the audience is emotionally and spiritually invested in the story. Director Om Raut’s Adipurush, starring Prabhas, Kriti Sanon, Saif Ali Khan, Sunny Singh and Devdutt Nage, is sensitive to that feeling. Full marks to the makers for the mammoth task of bringing India’s best-loved saga to the big screen, however, sometimes bravery alone is not enough. Here it is the execution that defeats the intention.
